Anzia Yezierska was a pioneering American-Jewish novelist whose work explored the immigrant experience in early 20th-century New York City. Her most famous novel, "Bread Givers" (1925), is a semi-autobiographical account of a young immigrant woman's struggle for independence and self-fulfillment.
